Fab 5 Friday: My Top 5 Breakfast Meals

I know. I know. I know.

I am super late with this post. The thing is, my life has been going through some exciting changes and the thought of sitting still in front of my computer and hashing out this article was inconceivable.

With that being said, I love cooking breakfast! I usually have a quick snack or shake as I head out the door to my early morning clients. When those sessions are completed I get to head back home to a quiet house and go to work in the kitchen! This routine allows me to unwind, regroup and refuel!

Here are my TOP 5 (currently) BREAKFAST RECIPES:

Sweet Potato & Scrambled Egg Sliders

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of Sweet Potato Sliced into approx. 1-inch rounds
  • 1 -2Tbsp of coconut oil

  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 eggs
  • A splash of non-dairy milk
  • Your choice of veggies and meat to add to your scramble.

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400*
  • Coat slices of sweet potato with coconut oil
  • Sprinkle slices with cinnamon and sea salt
  • Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, then turn over for another 15 minutes (I usually cook the sweet potatoes ahead of time and heat them in the skillet for a minute on each side after I cook my scrambled.)
  • Create your own egg scramble and place between two slices of sweet potatoes.

Sweet Potato Toast

Ingredients:

1-2 slices of sweet potatoes cut thinly lengthwise

Your choice: avocado, tuna, egg scramble, lunch meat, hummus etc.

Directions:

  • Toast slices of sweet potatoes in the toaster on medium (varies per toaster). When it pops, let cool for 2 minutes and toast again.
  • Add topping of your choice

Yogurt Bowl

Ingredients:

  • Greek or Siggi’s yogurt (both are nutrient dense and lactose-free)
  • Your choice of toppings. I recommend: Purely Elizabeth granola, coconut chips, Manitoba’s Harvest Hemp Hearts, berries, bananas, raw honey, walnuts, etc

Directions:

  • Mix and enjoy!

Egg & Bean Breakfast Burrito

(Not my picture)

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 fajita sized whole wheat tortilla
  • 1/2 cup canned black beans, rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons salsa

Directions

  • Crack 4 eggs into a glass bowl and whisk until well yolk and white are well combined.
  • Scramble eggs to your liking.
  • Rinse black beans to get rid of excess sodium, and set aside.
  • Pour eggs, beans, and salsa onto the tortilla. Roll into a burrito, and slice in half.

Mini Frittatas (enough for future breakfasts)

(obviously not my picture either)

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups grape tomatoes, halved
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 (2-ounce) links all-natural Italian chicken sausage, cooked and thinly sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 small yellow potatoes, peeled and diced

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400ºF. Mist a 12-count muffin tin with cooking spray.
  • In a medium skillet, heat oil over medium-low heat. Add potatoes, onion, and salt and sauté for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender.
  • Add sausage, garlic, and tomatoes, and sauté for 2 minutes more.
  • Divide mixture among muffin tins and allow to cool for about 10 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and yogurt. Stir in cheese, basil, and pepper. Divide evenly among muffin cups.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, until puffed and set.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for about 20 minutes. Slide a knife around each frittata and gently remove, placing on a large rimmed baking sheet.
  • Freeze until firm, about 2 hours, then transfer to a large zip-top freezer bag. Return to freezer until ready to serve, up to 1 month.
  • To serve, reheat in the oven or microwave can be used if desired.

Fab 5 Friday: Surge Workout

Disclaimer: I am not a videographer, editor, or in any way tech savvy. However, I am a fitness professional and enthusiast! These movements are fun, challenging, and make for a great circuit.

The SURGE

The SURGE is a product that uses hydro-inertia to provide resistance and challenge your bodies physical capabilities. As you will hear in the video below, as you move the water begins to shift which will also shift the physical demand on your body. Some exercises you will want to keep the water perfectly level, while with other exercises you will intentionally “dump” or osculate the water within the SURGE.

Today I performed 4 rounds at 60-second exercise.  I allowed 90 seconds rest between rounds

THE WORKOUT

Reverse Lunge w/Dump to Squat Press

Start with your feet directly under your hips, shoulders stacked over your hips and surge positioned right in front of your chest. With your right leg, take a step back into a reverse lunge while bringing the SURGE over your left leg, perpendicular to the ground. Water will collect at the bottom of the SURGE and as you drive up through your left foot, bring the SURGE back to chest, stabilize water and repeat on the other side. Then, keeping the surge at your chest, squat down and on your way up Press overhead until arms are fully extended. from there, tilt each side just a tad as you bring the surge back to your chest.

Single Arm Swing

Begin with your feet positioned outside your shoulders. One hand is holding the top handle of the surge as the handles face you. Lock your wrist and elbow, then begin to hinge at the hip, keeping your back flat and core tight as your drive the SURGE back between your legs. Your chest should never drop below your hips. As you reach your end point, draw your heels towards each other as you tighten your hamstrings and drive the SURGE forward so that it is parallel with the ground. At this point, your all the muscles in your arm should be contracted along with your glutes and abs. Begin to hinge at the hips and draw the SURGE back again and repeat. Allow the water to splash around but stay strong through your movement.

Box Variation in Squat

Lower yourself into a static squat position with your weight back on your heels. Start with the SURGE at Chest Level and lift overhead keeping the water level. Lower down to the chest and no press out in front of you still keeping the water level. Then dump to the right, left and back to center. Repeat.

RDL w/Row to Spinal Twist

Start with an underhand grip, soft knees, and tight abs. Keeping shoulder blades pulled together, Hinge at the hip lowering the SURGE just below the knee. Retract your shoulders to pull SURGE to the bottom of your rib cage, then twist as the water shifts down the SURGE. Slowly, rotate back to neutral position, stabilize the water, lower the SURGE below the knee, and then engage your abdominals, hamstrings, and glutes to return to starting position.

Chest Press in Bridge w/Alt. Leg Extension

(Please note that my hips should be higher than they are in the video.)

On your back with knees bent and feet hip-width apart, squeeze your glutes and lift your hips while holding the SURGE close to your chest with a neutral grip. As you begin to extend the SURGE from your chest, extend one leg straight out while keeping your hips, and water, level. Slowly lower foot and SURGE back to the starting position and repeat on the other side.

I have really enjoyed the challenges the SURGE provides and it has spiced up my workouts. Head over to www.hedstromfitness.com and receive 17% off your purchase when you use the code LUCKY17. Offer ends Monday

Fab Friday: Empowered and Ready! Bring on 2017.

img_9511

WOW! 2016 completely shook up my world.

On a personal level, it was one of the worst times on my life. On a professional level, I learned a lot.

There were many positive things that I was able to experience, yet there are many things that occurred and I am still trying to understand and find the lessoned learned.

It has been rough.

The stress I endured affected my health and my business.

I set a lot of goals for myself this year and 90% of them had to be put on hold. I set out to EVOLVE this year. That was my theme. And I EVOLVED, but the journey was not what I envisioned.

As this year comes to a close I do believe I am in the perfect position to take on the next year, next chapter, and continue to move on and grow.

img_9509

I am stronger rooted in who I AM and will not allow other people to define or project their thoughts and insecurities on me.

Instead of dwelling on 2016, I am looking forward and committing to a STRONG, POSITIVE and EMPOWERED 2017.

Some of the many things I am excited to experience in the coming year:

  • Paid partnerships with 2 Health/Fitness companies. (look forward to discounts, giveaways and more)
  • Working with my team to grow my brand and update my site
  • Spring Training and running the Giants Race
  • Working with my Sweat Pink Sisters on the #IAMEMPOWERED campaign
  • Growing with the POPSUGAR Influencer team
  • Launching my e-book and online program
  • Finishing my book
  • Attending Blogfest and Fitbloggin
  • Going on a real vacation
  • Buying a paddle board
  • Working towards a pain free body
  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Continuing my yoga practice
  • Guiding and inspiring my clients to live healthy and fit
  • Spending time with my tribe 🙂

What are you looking forward to most in 2017?

Trigger Point STK & Grid Mini: Perfect tools to help relieve and restore those tight, tired and achy muscles. What I love most about these two is that they are small and compact so they can fit perfectly in a gym bag or suitcase.

Graphic Sweatshirt & T-Shirt: Who doesn’t LOVE to rock a fun saying on their shirt. I always find that when I have an outfit that makes me feel good and a little bad-@$$y my workouts are so much better. There are plenty of fun sayings out there, which one speaks to you?

Ninja Yoga Capri’s: These are super cute, high quality and are at the top of my wishlist.

On the Go Essentials: Do you travel a lot? Well now there is no excuse not to miss a workout. These resistance bands are a easy to tote with you in the Nike gym bag or any bag of your choice. I happen to like the look and style of this Nike bag.

Yoga Mat, Strap and Cleaning Wipes: Yoga mats are always good have on hand. I have one for my own outdoor workouts, in house workouts and nicer one for yoga classes. The yoga strap is a great tool to increase flexibility and work on mobility. I also had the opportunity to test out the Seven Yoga Mat Wipes and was pleased with product and they smell great!

Glass Water Bottle: Even knowing the health benefits of using a glass water bottle over plastic I was apprehensive to transition for a long time. I am clumsy and though for sure it would break. I have now switched over and refuse to go back. It also allows me to use my essential oils to add a pick me up to my workouts.

Speed Rope & Earbuds: Two things that can increase the intensity of a workout. A jump rope allows for hard hitting cardio and is perfect for when you are short on time. These earbuds are super cute and music can make or break a workout. Select your butt kicking play list and get moving.

So there you have it.

I am curious to hear from you, What are some of your favorite things?

Fab 5 Friday: Things I Am Grateful For

After a few chaotic weeks I am back again with another Fab 5 Friday.

Todays post does not have a specific theme, rather it is just a collection of some of the things that I appreciate, value during and tend to neglect during busy times. I am definitely looking forward to getting settled and getting focused!

The WOW Book: 52 Ways to Motivate Your Mind, Inspire Your Soul and Create WOW in Your Life!

webmail-motivated-fitness-5

Todd Durkin has been my friend and mentor for the past 6 years and I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak of his book before it was released. Todd has helped me grow my business beyond what I could have ever imagined and even though I have been working with him for 6 years, I feel as though I have just begun to scratch the surface.

If you need a little inspiration, if you are looking to improve certain areas of your life or to build stronger relationships, I highly recommend this book. I love this passage from his book, which sheds light on what it takes to create a life that you love.

“As we continue to work hard for own BREAKTHROUGHS and breakouts, know that it is the cumulative effect of our daily actions and discipline that sets you up for excellence. Dreams, passion, surrounding yourself with people that elevate your mindset, hard work, and the ability to focus on “winning” each and every day. That’s what builds greatness. That’s what builds champions.”

Friends that are Family

As I have mentioned before, these past few weeks have been filled with uncertainty. There were mornings when I did not know where I would be sleeping. I had packed up my room, broken down my bed thinking that I was going to be moving into a home only to have it fall through. I couldn’t even sleep on the couch at the townhouse I had given notice to because my roommate had allowed another person to stay in the living room. Again, there was no longer space for my belongings in the bathroom so I had to rely on friends. I can’t express enough gratitude for the people who allowed me to sleep on their couch, fed me dinner and allowed me to use their shower and internet. It is so nice to know that I have friends that treat me like family.

Furry Friends!

 webmail-motivated-fitness-4

It is impossible to be in a bad mood when there is a four-legged friend around that just wants to lick you and cuddle with you. Dogs are amazing creatures and I love that people trust me to care for their animals while they are away. This past week I have had some fun and entertaining times with Buster and I have many more dog sitting gigs booked through the end of the year. Dogs make me laugh and feel loved.

Healthy Food

 webmail-motivated-fitness-6

I will never take a refrigerator and freezer for granted again!

This is the first week in months that I was able to use a full kitchen, prep food and make my morning shake. In my last place, I had no room in the freezer for an ice cube tray. The refrigerator was packed with no room to spare and I settled for eating out which eventually led to poor food choices.

I took 3 days this week to complete the 3-Day Refresh program to help get my digestive system back on track. I feel good and being able to have my Shakeology daily has vastly improved my energy level.

My new roommate is also very health conscious and I am hopeful that we can prep some meals together.

Podcasts

You need to strengthen your mind just like you need to strengthen your muscles. I do my best to get in 30 minutes of personal development a day. When I do, I am much more prepared for what ever lies ahead. I am focused and clear about my goals and my purpose.

I have subscribed to many podcasts and have a lot of catching up to do. Recently on my commute I have been listening to my friend and colleague Trish Blackwell’s Confidence On The Go podcast. I have admired Trish for many years and was finally able to meet her in person last year after many e-mails and messages exchanged the years prior. Her authenticity and passion for helping people feel and achieve their best selves is admirable. Her tone and approach to her craft leaves you feeling invigorated and empowered.

The episode that really spoke to me recently was Overcoming Compassion Fatigue. I think any business owner or person who works in an industry that relies heavily on YOU serving and leading people on a daily basis should tune into this episode. I highly recommend you check out her podcast that she updates every Tuesday. You will not be disappointed.

See you next week!

Wishing you a Healthier Ever After

Fab 5 Friday: 5 Things I Cherish When Visiting My Father

webmail-motivated-fitness-8If I am lucky, my schedule allows me to visit my dad once a week.

I have always been a daddy’s girl. He was the parent that listened, the one that hugged, wanted to talk, play catch, and would watch whatever silly show I put on just to spend time with me.

Many of those things I took for granted but now that he has been in a full time care facility over an hour away (without traffic) I embrace the little glimpse of caring and remembering that appears when the Alzheimer’s is momentarily suppressed.

Here are some of the things I am grateful for when I am able to spend time with him:

When he remembers I am his daughter. He still knows I am Tiffany and I am dreading the day when that comes to an end. For now, every visit he is excited to see me and still calls me by my name. Often he doesn’t know how to introduce me. He can’t remember if I am his brother, his wife or sister. But the days he does remember, the days he calls me his daughter, light up my heart.

Our walks on the patio and sitting in the sun. My dads facility has a large outdoor area. One of the things we always do is walk around the patio and he like to count the doves and the chickens that are in the cages outside. Every time he tells me that one is missing and then points out one that is a ‘bully.’ It is nice to be able to get out and walk around with him. I miss our walks near the beach or even just down to the shopping center. At least we are still able to get out into the open air and enjoy nature.

The gossip he fills me in on about the people in his facility. I am pretty sure it is all made up, but nonetheless, it is still entertaining. I often wonder if he is telling me old stories that he remembers from when he was younger.

I LOVE to hear him talk about the Giants. The San Francisco Giants hold a special place in the hearts of the Gustafson’s. It is a team that brought us together through tough and scary times. It is a team that we celebrated birthdays and Mother’s and Father’s Day’s with and knowing those days are long gone it makes me smile when he wants to talk about the Giants and their season. Granted they do not play the games at his facility, but he still asks and wants to know even though he may not remember a few hours later.

webmail-motivated-fitness-7

When he walks me to the door. Well, sometimes. There are days when it is heartwarming and days when it breaks my heart. He always wants to walk me to the car, make sure I am safe and that the car is running correctly. Unfortunately, he is not able to leave the facility with me. He doesn’t understand why and gets upset when they wil not allow him to leave. There are some days I have to sneak out when he is not looking but I embrace the days when we will walk me to the front door, give me a big hug, and tell me how much he loves me. Those are the good days!

Fab 5 Friday: When Life Works Well List

With my birthday fast approaching I like to take time to reflect over the past 365 days. I think about what I have accomplished, what I want to accomplish, where improvements can be made and congratulate myself for the growth that occurred. Each year brings new adventures, new lessons, and powerful memories. Birthdays are a great milestone to take time to reflect on YOU. After all, it is YOUR DAY.

Here are my 5 ‘When Life Works Well” List.

  1. Trust your Gut

Both literally, and physically. Believe in your instincts. They are there for a reason, and every time I have tried to ignore what was stirring up within in me, and I turned away from it, I regretted my decision. Your intuition is a powerful thing.

  1. Keep Moving

Just do it. Nike’s saying is spot on. Even when you don’t feel like heading to the gym or getting super sweaty, just start moving. Go for a walk . Do some squats or reverse lunges in place. Jumping jacks are great too. Once you start moving for a few minutes you will want to keep going for a few more, then a few more.

  1. Personal Time

It’s not selfish it’s self-care. The other day I read a quote that read, “You can’t pour for an empty glass.” How true that is! It is important to take time for you. Go to a spa, meditate, pick up a new hobby or immerse yourself in an interest you all ready love. Do things for you. Do things that make you happy.

  1. Write it out

I am a lover of lists! To-do lists, grocery lists, if it can be made into a list and I can cross things off, I am a happy girl! I love to write and share my stories. It is a way for me to pay it forward, share and connect with others. It wasn’t until I started journaling on a daily basis did I begin to feel more clarity. I journal about the things I am grateful for, goals, dreams, what went well today and what ever else pops into my head. Some days I can go on for pages, other days its just a few sentences, but no matter the length of the entry it feels great to get everything that is going on in my head and put it onto paper. I don’t need to go back and read it, but it is there if I feel the need to do so.

  1. Smile Anyway

There will be times you do not want to. I have them often, but thinking of something positive, funny or inappropriate enough to give you a little chuckle will help lighten your mood. I find this especially useful when people challenge me, or try to bring me down. I just smile and think, “success is the best revenge.” That is thought or mantra that allows me to push through my funk and realize all the good that is around me. It forces me to smile and my mood begins to shift.

Fridays FAB 5: Finds!!!

webmail.motivated-fitness-1

This week I have been focused on settling back in after a conference and vacation. It was time to iron out my schedule for the fall and get back to cooking and meal prepping.

While I love being able to take time off and get a way for a while, I definitely crave routine and having control over my schedule. This week I was able to try out a few new things and revisit some old.

Here are my Friday FAB 5 Finds:

iBand Sling

I received this in my BlogFest swag bag and at first I didn’t know what to make of it. I have plenty of small backpacks and a fanny pack (which I totally rock!) that I can take with me on hikes or to festivals. However, I do love compartments and this sling has a ton of them. So I decided to try it out on my hike this past Sunday.

webmail.motivated-fitness-3

I loved it! It was comfortable, light and extremely functional. The only problem I had was remembering which compartment I put my belongings in. Not a big problem, just something this user needs to remember and get used to.

Valley View Trail

webmail.motivated-fitness-4

Lately I have been hiking along the beach or somewhere inland along the peninsula but I decided to switch it up this week. I decided to venture to San Pedro Valley Park and check out the trails I used to hike on as a kid while growing up in Pacifica. I forgot how green and beautiful that park is and seeing a family of deer crossing your path early in the morning is a great way to start off your morning. This loop is very family friendly and has enough of an incline to get your heart rate up. It is also great for a quick run if you are into trail running.

Momentum Jewelry

I have been eyeing this company for quite some time but being the indecisive person that I am I had a hard time deciding on which wrap to purchase. I came across their booth at the expo hall while at IDEA World and the first one that popped out at me was this one….

webmail.motivated-fitness-6

If you have been in my classes or trained with me you have heard me say “Dig Deep” many times. I believe in this phrase. We always have more in us than we initially believe. We can always push a little more, try a bit harder and go a little further. But you have to dig deep to find it and when you do you break down barriers. Now I just have to decide which one to get next!

miFitness Hub

This app was created by one of my clients husband and her brother. It is basically Instagram for fitness but more motivation and workouts opposed to selfies and butt shots. You earn points for posting pictures, videos and engaging with other members of the community and once you earn enough points you can redeem them for an Amazon gift card. They are still in the early stages and are in talks with getting more sponsorships but it is still a fun way to connect, learn new things and stay accountable to your workouts.

Encouraging Blend – Essential Oil

webmail.motivated-fitness-7

I am becoming obsessed with essential oils. I now make my own cleaning products which are much cheaper and healthier. Use them on achy muscles, to help calm my anxiety and for a little pick me up!Waking up at 3:45 everyday isn’t always easy but I love this Encouraging Blend called Motivate which is a blend of mint and citrus oils. You can use topically when you have a stressful day or combine and inhale with some peppermint to give you an extra ‘kick’ when you need it!

Happy Friday! Feel free to comment below with your favorite finds of the week.

Fab 5 Friday: The Big IDEA

If you have been following me on my social media channels last week you probably saw me posting lots of pictures about products, people, food and more food! I had the honor of being selected to attend Blogfest, a relatively new segment at the IDEA World Health and Fitness Convention, and it has definitely been the highlight of my summer thus far. IDEA is the worlds largest fitness convention and it took place in Los Angeles this past week.

It has been over 3 years since I have attended IDEA, and each time I come away with a different experience, cutting edge products, and lots of new friends.

Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Vital Proteins

A collagen based protein product? Say WHAT? At first I was a little apprehensive about drinking something made out of collagen but once I discovered that this product was not a “Hollywood quick fix” type product and learned the science behind how our body utilizes the peptides to rebuild bone and joint health and can repair the digestive issues more effectively than other types of protein I was more at ease. And then, I had the opportunity to try some of their products and was quite impressed.

Yogurt mixed with Vital proteins, berries and hemp hearts.

  1. Good Culture Cottage Cheese And The Bell Institute.

First off, cottage cheese is a staple in my weekly diet. I love it but I am so picky about it. I had some reservations when the Bell Institute, who provide many health and wellness services through their web portal, provided us with breakfast the very first day. But after taking one bit I was hooked and making my way to their booth between every session to steal, I mean sample, their cottage cheese! Did I mention they are also very generous?

Yumm!

Yum!

I also became a fan of the Bell Institute who was hired by General Mills to help improve the quality of their products and help educate the consumer about healthy choices. Their website provides tons of valuable and applicable information. Be sure to check them out here.

  1. Amy Van Dyken, Jenna Wolfe and Trish Blackwell

All women with a story. All women acting with passion and purpose. Women who will stop at nothing, but also want to see and help others succeed. Amy Van Dyken’s Inspiration Award acceptance speech was powerful. Jenna Wolfe’s keynote at Blogfest was hilarious and moving. And Trish Blackwell, I have followed her for quite sometime and she never disappoints. She has created a business and career similar to the one I envision for myself. I listen to her podcasts often and follow her leadership through social media. But what really blew me away was when I went up to her in the lobby after the conference and she knew who I was! I felt like a winner. And it was confirmed in that moment I will create the life I want and achieve the goals I have set for myself. I belong in the same room with these women.

  1. Friendships

New and old! There are not many industries where you can attend a conference and the energy is magnetic. The warm environment at IDEA invites you to strike up a conversation with the person next to you, hug your sweaty workout partner after intense workout and exchange information to network and keep in touch throughout the year. It is something you have to experience to understand. This trip allowed me the opportunity to connect with some of my friends across the US and some internationally that I have not seen in the past few years. It is always nice to be greeted with a big smile and a warm hug.

New friends <3

  1. Blogfest

Grateful. Beyond words. I was intimidated heading into the weekend fearing that my blog wasn’t up to snuff. I didn’t know what to expect. I had no idea if I was prepared for the two day intensive. But again, just like IDEA itself, I made new friends, networked and had an amazing time. I learned a lot and laughed a lot too! You will begin to see me truly expressing who I am and what I stand for in the health and fitness world. More authentically and consistently. I am so excited for what is in store and getting out of my comfort zone to really make things happen.

Two of the women behind the whole event!

I am happy to be back to my normal routine but I am grateful for all that I experienced the past week at IDEA.

Have a great weekend!

FAB Friday is BACK!

I have been off the grid lately.

I have had a lot of personal things going on that I am unable to disclose right now and I needed some time away to FOCUS on ME.

But I am back! And I am excited for what this next chapter holds for me.

So despite all the chaos the past month I have am going back to my FAB Fridays and sharing all the things I love, discovered or can’t get enough of!

Good People

It may sound silly but when you are going through a tough time you learn really quick who it is that you can count on. Some dive right in there with you. Listen and lend a hand. Others judge and want to tell you what it is that YOU should be doing based on THEIR opinions. They are all talk and no action. And, there are the ones that run for the hills. I have learned the people that I need to focus more attention on and the ones that I should conserve energy around.

STRONG

I absolutely loved this new show on NBC. My mentor and friend Todd Durkin was one of the trainers this season and I connected with his first trainee Devon Cassidy’s story in so many ways. They were eliminated Week 3 but in Week 6, along with the other eliminated contestants, had an opportunity to come back to compete for a second chance on the show. Todd made it through and formed a new team with Brittany. Every week their backs were against the wall as they faced elimination. And every week they fought and persevered. They made it all they way to the finals but fell short. It was a hard fight and showed that when you are physically and mentally strong you can over come any obstacle. It definitely shifted my mindset and is making me refocus in my own training and life.

Books

I have some amazingly talented friends! Two weeks ago my friends Dawn and Doug landed on the Amazon Best Seller List. This is Dawn’s First book and the second one for Doug.

Jack’s Journey USA

This is a great feel good story about a woman and her dog traveling across country, meeting new people, exploring new places and hosting classes educating people how to get outdoors and be active with their dogs. Jack’s personality is one of a kind and he is huge into water sports. If you are an animal lover or seeking adventure be sure to check out this book.

Faith, Family, Fitness

I just started this book but one thing I can tell you about Doug, he is full of wisdom and has stories to share. He is a genuine soul and through trial and error, like most of us, is sharing what is important in his life and WHY. I hope to finish this book over the weekend.

Water

Water equals tranquility for me. I grew up down the street from the beach and spent summers at our lake house. I often head to the beach to clear my mind of negativity and gather my thoughts. There I am able to RESET and just BE. Currently I am spending a lot of time at a home with a waterfall in the back yard. I sit by it and read, journal and I am there currently writing this blog post!
