Trigger Point STK & Grid Mini: Perfect tools to help relieve and restore those tight, tired and achy muscles. What I love most about these two is that they are small and compact so they can fit perfectly in a gym bag or suitcase.

Graphic Sweatshirt & T-Shirt: Who doesn’t LOVE to rock a fun saying on their shirt. I always find that when I have an outfit that makes me feel good and a little bad-@$$y my workouts are so much better. There are plenty of fun sayings out there, which one speaks to you?

Ninja Yoga Capri’s: These are super cute, high quality and are at the top of my wishlist.

On the Go Essentials: Do you travel a lot? Well now there is no excuse not to miss a workout. These resistance bands are a easy to tote with you in the Nike gym bag or any bag of your choice. I happen to like the look and style of this Nike bag.

Yoga Mat, Strap and Cleaning Wipes: Yoga mats are always good have on hand. I have one for my own outdoor workouts, in house workouts and nicer one for yoga classes. The yoga strap is a great tool to increase flexibility and work on mobility. I also had the opportunity to test out the Seven Yoga Mat Wipes and was pleased with product and they smell great!

Glass Water Bottle: Even knowing the health benefits of using a glass water bottle over plastic I was apprehensive to transition for a long time. I am clumsy and though for sure it would break. I have now switched over and refuse to go back. It also allows me to use my essential oils to add a pick me up to my workouts.

Fitbit Charge 2 & Alta: I happen to find Fitbit and their products perfect for my needs. They are easy to use, sink with your smart phone and the Alta is on sale for $30. You can’t beat that!

Post Workout Needs: Dry shampoo and good cleansing wipes are a must! These are perfect additions to your gym bag for easy use and a quick pick me up so you can run errands after your workout sesh!.

Speed Rope & Earbuds: Two things that can increase the intensity of a workout. A jump rope allows for hard hitting cardio and is perfect for when you are short on time. These earbuds are super cute and music can make or break a workout. Select your butt kicking play list and get moving.

So there you have it.

I am curious to hear from you, What are some of your favorite things?

Attack Or Be A Victim

webmail.motivated-fitnessHey there!!!

How is the day going so far? Are you excited for the week ahead, or are you sulking because yet again, the weekend has come to an end? Are you ready to ambitiously attack the day, or thinking about how many cups of coffee you need to consume before you find yourself comfy and cozy back at home?

Guess what? You are in charge of your life! Yes YOU. Right now you get to choose how would like your day to unfold. Sure, you cannot control every aspect of the day, but waking with a positive mindset will empower you to own how you react to what comes your way.
Every Monday we are flooded with tons of memes on social media that are filled with rainbows and unicorns wishing you an amazing day. Or, angry cats not wanting to be disturbed and flipped over dogs exclaiming, WHY? WHY? WHY?

The choice is yours my friend. You can choose to smile at a stranger or stare blankly at the ground. You can choose to curse out your boss in your head after a meeting that didn’t pan out the way you wanted it to. Or you may choose to strut out of that terrible meeting rocking that fabulous outfit you worked your tail off for. And hey, if it suits you, go ahead and flip your hair back while you are at it. IT IS YOUR CHOICE. But you have to own it!

So have you decided yet? Are you going to be a victim of this day or are you going to make the day yours?

Are you a miserable little feline or an ecstatic mystical unicorn.

Wishing you a Healthy Ever After!

You don’t need fancy equipment or a special gym to get in a workout. All you need is determination, focus and a strong commitment to your health.  Get after it TODAY!

On Your Mark, Get Set, GO!!!

You are at the starting line, your heart is racing, your head is pounding…what the hell have I gotten myself into?

Yes. That is the normal thought process of those people who are taking on a new challenge and have no idea what the outcome may be. The only thing they do know, they need to take action, and there is no turning back.

That is exactly what Meg Burton did on March 8th!  Meg joined my online challenge community in May of 2013. She was determined to make her health and fitness a priority and she took one step forward and never looked back.  She committed herself  to her goals, shared them with co-workers, inspired friends and the online community to keep pushing forward.

Meg at the starting line before the Giants Race in Scottsdale Arizona

Meg works long hours in the operating room and on top of that she has the nights shift but she never used that as an excuse. She kept her goal to become more fit and healthy in mind and didn’t miss a workout or a check in. She has been on a roll!

I made it a goal of mine for 2014 to run a competitive race at least once per quarter. I wanted to get back into competitive sports and not just rely on doing things recreationally so in November I started recruiting friends to participate in the San Francisco Giants inaugural Scottsdale Giants Race. I have ran the race in SF before but there is nothing like Spring Training and having lots of friends that already live in Arizona made it a perfect girls getaway.

Well as the date drew near some people had schedule changes, some had different goals and in the end the only ones left running were Meg and myself. Then the night before I left I had x-rays on what I thought was just a sprained ankle turned out to be a broken bone in my foot. I was ordered to keep off of it. No race for me.

I was devastated and felt bad for Meg. This was going to be her first race ever! She was the lone survivor but that didn’t bother her and she did not back down! She ran that race. And when I say she ran it, I mean she RAN IT! She didn’t back down from the challenge even though she was running it alone. She was committed to the run, to her training and she succeeded with a great time.

After race victory!

I can’t express how proud I am for her and to see her cross that finish line. She and I go way back. She was the first child I ever babysat. To this day I am not sure how I was held responsible for such a young girl, when I myself was so young, but we were definitely meant to be in each others lives. Our families had vacation homes across the street from one another for many years but life takes its course and eventually people moved, but through the power of Internet we remained connected. That day was the first day I spent with her since she was 8 years old and I wouldn’t want to spend it any other way.

Meg decided to take responsibility and take action which lead her to results!

So many of us wait for motivation to take action but action breeds motivation. Meg is already trying to recruit people for her next races and we are planning to run the Giants Race in SF this year. Crazy costumes and all!

So if there is something you want to accomplish, make a conscious decision and start putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t wait for perfect timing, a sign or someone to give you permission.  Heck, I will give you permission. GO DO IT!

Are you ready?

On your mark…

Get set….

GO!!!

Then and now!

Take Action

Monday January 13, 2013

I had one of those days today. I was exhausted, lacking motivation and just feeling blah. The last thing I wanted to do was workout.

Yes, it happens to fitness professionals too. And as much as I dreaded it I forced myself to go to the gym. I didn’t know how it was going to go and didn’t really have any expectations I just reminded myself of my goals and the example I want to set this year.

Guess what? I had an awesome workout.

You have to take action in order to gain momentum and once I got started I didn’t want to stop tonight. Now I can sleep well knowing I am one step closer to my goals.

What is a Workout?

This weekend I was over at my parents house going through old boxes of pictures, books and other miscellaneous things when I came across this article:

WHAT IS A WORKOUT?

A workout is 25% perspiration and 75% determination. One part physical exertion and three parts self-discipline.

A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination. The mark of an organized, goal oriented person who has taken charge of his or her destiny.

A workout makes you better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes the mind and toughens the spirit. Workout regularly and your problems diminish and your confidence grows.

A workout is a wise use of time and an investment in excellence. It is a way of preparing for the challenges in life and proving to yourself that you have what it takes to do what is necessary.

A workout is a key that helps unlock the door to opportunity and success. Hidden within each of us is an extraordinary force. Physical and mental fitness are the triggers that can release it.

A workout is a form of rebirth. when you finish a good workout you don;t simple feel better, you feel better about yourself.

Make your workouts your priority this week and see how your life shifts!

Go ahead, make yourself!

For those of you that have known me for a while you are well aware that I am pretty much obsessed with all things NIKE.

Growing up it didn’t matter if I was playing basketball, soccer, softball or running track I was always sporting my NIKE’s and wearing them with pride. They made me feel strong, powerful, and invincible. They made me feel like no one could stop me and I thought I looked really cool.

We all have our “thing” that makes us feel better, prettier, stronger and smarter. And although this may be true to a certain extent, it’s really our mindset, our focus, and our true character that brings out these traits and feelings. We all have wonderful qualities within ourselves but sometimes we need a little push to let these qualities shine.

Recently I have grown to appreciate NIKE’s marketing campaigns and find those even more inspiring and motivating than the shoes I put on my feet or the clothes I wear on my back. Their ads encourage people to push themselves farther than they perceive possible, focus on their goal while adding positive reinforcement. Often times I find myself looking at their ads, both past and present, to help me get my mind right for the week or even the day.

This past weekend was the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco. For the months leading up to the race there were signs all around the city saying, “I run to be ______________.” Each participant was asked to fill in the blank with their own word or saying. This simple task allowed the runners to dictate and determine what the run, and all the training prior to the race meant for them. Completing this simple sentence enabled them to own their individual race, and it added a constant reminder that this race means a lot more than just completing 26.2 miles. It is pretty remarkable that 20,000 people train for 4-6 months, all come together on one day to run the same race but all with a different underlying intention.

Now I have a challenge for you. Stealing from another Nike ad, I want you to think about your training program, your goals, and what your workout routine means to you. We all train for different reasons but ultimately your training should make you feel better, stronger, or bring out a side of you that only happens while you exercise. Then filling the blank. “I train to make myself  ____________!”

Think about your own personal slogan everyday. Keep it in mind as you workout and those times you want to give up or skip a session. Don’t be afraid to let that inner light shine. But most of all do me a favor and make yourself PROUD!
