Find Your Tribe & LOVE Them Hard

I am still recovering from IDEA World and Blogfest that I attended this past weekend. While the conference was incredible, I am exhausted. While I was there I felt as if I was stuck in a time warp. I didn’t know what day it was, barely went outside (thank god it was 100+ degrees), and was constantly stimulate by new information, products or the pesky beauty care line that kept harassing me about my bags under my eyes. (Hello, I am at a conference and operating on very little sleep. I don’t need you $400 eye cream. I need my bed!)

Every year that IDEA rolls around is my favorite time of year. It is like Christmas for me. I learn a lot, get inspired and always come home with new ideas and dreams.

But my absolute favorite part of the IDEA Conference is the connections that are made.

The people that you see pictured…that is my tribe.

They are my supporters.

Working out with De and Lorri!

My co-workers!

Hanging with Sara!

Old co-workers and new…

They are my friends.

Adina, Jenn, Steph, Pauline and Rhonda

Without them, I would not be where I am today in this industry. We lean on each other. We lead each other. We share knowledge, insights and information. Together, we want to make a difference and change the health of the world one person at a time.

We have different backgrounds and specialties, but we all have something to contribute. So, find your tribe and love them hard. When you do, what you receive in return will be magnified times 10!

Fab 5 Friday: The Big IDEA

If you have been following me on my social media channels last week you probably saw me posting lots of pictures about products, people, food and more food! I had the honor of being selected to attend Blogfest, a relatively new segment at the IDEA World Health and Fitness Convention, and it has definitely been the highlight of my summer thus far. IDEA is the worlds largest fitness convention and it took place in Los Angeles this past week.

It has been over 3 years since I have attended IDEA, and each time I come away with a different experience, cutting edge products, and lots of new friends.

Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Vital Proteins

A collagen based protein product? Say WHAT? At first I was a little apprehensive about drinking something made out of collagen but once I discovered that this product was not a “Hollywood quick fix” type product and learned the science behind how our body utilizes the peptides to rebuild bone and joint health and can repair the digestive issues more effectively than other types of protein I was more at ease. And then, I had the opportunity to try some of their products and was quite impressed.

  1. Good Culture Cottage Cheese And The Bell Institute.

First off, cottage cheese is a staple in my weekly diet. I love it but I am so picky about it. I had some reservations when the Bell Institute, who provide many health and wellness services through their web portal, provided us with breakfast the very first day. But after taking one bit I was hooked and making my way to their booth between every session to steal, I mean sample, their cottage cheese! Did I mention they are also very generous?

Yumm!

Yum!

I also became a fan of the Bell Institute who was hired by General Mills to help improve the quality of their products and help educate the consumer about healthy choices. Their website provides tons of valuable and applicable information. Be sure to check them out here.

  1. Amy Van Dyken, Jenna Wolfe and Trish Blackwell

All women with a story. All women acting with passion and purpose. Women who will stop at nothing, but also want to see and help others succeed. Amy Van Dyken’s Inspiration Award acceptance speech was powerful. Jenna Wolfe’s keynote at Blogfest was hilarious and moving. And Trish Blackwell, I have followed her for quite sometime and she never disappoints. She has created a business and career similar to the one I envision for myself. I listen to her podcasts often and follow her leadership through social media. But what really blew me away was when I went up to her in the lobby after the conference and she knew who I was! I felt like a winner. And it was confirmed in that moment I will create the life I want and achieve the goals I have set for myself. I belong in the same room with these women.

  1. Friendships

New and old! There are not many industries where you can attend a conference and the energy is magnetic. The warm environment at IDEA invites you to strike up a conversation with the person next to you, hug your sweaty workout partner after intense workout and exchange information to network and keep in touch throughout the year. It is something you have to experience to understand. This trip allowed me the opportunity to connect with some of my friends across the US and some internationally that I have not seen in the past few years. It is always nice to be greeted with a big smile and a warm hug.

  1. Blogfest

Grateful. Beyond words. I was intimidated heading into the weekend fearing that my blog wasn’t up to snuff. I didn’t know what to expect. I had no idea if I was prepared for the two day intensive. But again, just like IDEA itself, I made new friends, networked and had an amazing time. I learned a lot and laughed a lot too! You will begin to see me truly expressing who I am and what I stand for in the health and fitness world. More authentically and consistently. I am so excited for what is in store and getting out of my comfort zone to really make things happen.

I am happy to be back to my normal routine but I am grateful for all that I experienced the past week at IDEA.

Have a great weekend!

STRONG…Are You Ready?

In April of 2011 I attended Todd Durkin’s Mentorship Program in San Diego. On the second day of the 3.5 day weekend I found was rushed to the hospital due to complications from a previous medical procedure. This was a fluke incident that had nothing to do with any of the activities involved in the weekend but it was definitely came at the most inconvenient time.  The weekend was supposed to be dedicated to turning both my life and career around.  As I laid on the gurney in the ER wearing a gown covered in blood waiting to go into surgery many thoughts began to flood my mind. (read more about that here.)

I originally met Todd in August of 2010 at the IDEA World Fitness Convention and while his lectures had a huge IMPACT on me and forced me to come to my senses, 2011 was the year to commit to change. For 5 years prior, I was miserable. I loathed my job and I was influenced by people who were toxic to my well- being. I was depressed, drinking excessively and completely lost in both my professional and personal life.

But after spending the weekend with Todd in 2011 I joined his Mastermind group and my life began to shift toward more positive and promising outcomes. I realized I can, and deserve, to live the life of my dreams.

If others can do it, why not me?

As I dug deep into the personal and professional development he asked of us I became healthier, more successful, and found the right group to proudly call my TRIBE.

It hasn’t been easy, and I have stumbled many times along the way, but achieving your goals is not supposed to be a cakewalk. It takes obstacles, failures and hard lessons before you attain that high mark you set for yourself.

Todd has taught all of us in the mastermind to set weekly, monthly, and yearly goals and then challenges us to go bigger and dig deeper. He wants BHAGs (Big Harry Audacious Goals) He makes sure we are COMMITTED and in touch with our WHY with each decision we make. We have recommended reading, writing, and videos to watch to help us grow and get closer to our goals and purpose. He, along with our other coaches, spend so much time giving and mentoring us that sometimes we tend to forget that they have goals too.

Well I am happy to announce, and celebrate, that Todd’s 9 year BHAG is now a reality.

On April 13th he Todd be starting in NBC’s new show STRONG! I can’t wait for more to people to experience his heart, his passion, and his ability to IMPACT anyone he comes into contact with. He has changed my life and he will inspire many more through this show.

Be sure to check out STRONG on NBC April 13th! And if you live near me, I plan on hosting a viewing party so watch my FB page for details.

Get ready to be INSPIRED!
